Defective product and extremely poor customer service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I purchased a new Brita pitcher. It has a light on the top of the lid, near the spout, that is supposed to glow green when the filter is still good to use, and glow red when it's time to switch the filter. My pitcher didn't glow at all. I followed all the instructions a few times, to be sure I was doing everything correctly, I then searched online to be sure I wasn't missing any crucial instructions. Finally, I reached out to Brita, to ask them what to do about it. On October 31, I emailed Brita via the "contact us" email address. I received a response the same day, re-sending me all the instructions (even though I clearly explained exactly what I did to set up the pitcher) and with an assurance - "Don't worry, even though the machine doesn't do what it is supposed to do, your water is still being filtered". That's not exactly what they said, but close enough. I responded, and confirmed, per my previous email, that I had followed the exact instructions they provided. On the same day, Brita responded and asked me for details - the date of purchase, the location of the indicator light, the capacity, how much I paid, and when did I purchase it. They also asked for my full name and mailing address. I emailed the requested information to Brita the same day. And, I never heard from them again. I emailed to ask about next steps on November 4, again on November 15, and again on November 28. Crickets. The last time I went to Costco, I noticed that they now carry a Kirkland brand of water pitcher with filters. I will eventually replace the Brita with the Kirkland model. And now I keep a manual record of the date I change the filter so that I know when to change it next.

User's recommendation: Good product, but if you should ever need it, horrible customer service.

Expensive filters only last one month.

Customer service is great! The phone person had plenty of patience as I explained the issue. I had a problem with how long the filters lasted i.e. 6-8 weeks.

Poor product engineering

We bought our first BRITA Countertop filter and it served us well. Over 15 years, through cleaning the spigot loosened. We fixed that. Over time it began to leak. So we began to search for a new BRITA, and found out the one we purchased was discontinued. We bought a new countertop model and have not been happy with it. It is half the size of the old model and has a lot to be desired. Definitely a downgrade all around. Just give me my old BRITA back.

Filter doesn't fit. It's too small. Says fits ALL.

I would like a filter replacement. This one is defective. When I push it in, it moves around a little bit. It's too small for the pitcher. No one has contacted me about this issue. It's RUDE

There's NO WAY to recycle their water filters!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have a "My Brita" account. I've been trying since November 2021 to recycle Brita for the filters for the 10 cup pitchers. This week (April 11 - April 15), I have spent 2 hours overall on phone calls to customer service, only to be "escalated" to the "recycling department" with a "ticket number" to then receive an email from said "recycling department" to sign in to the "My Brita" account! Today, a different Brita CSR finally showed me how to navigate the "My Brita" site (which is NOT intuitive), but I couldn't select the "request label" because the option was "grayed out". So the poor CSR suggested I use a "different browser". I informed her that I've used FoxFire and Chrome (Chrome attempt was done while I was on the phone with her) and still couldn't request or print a label as the option is "grayed out". Out of frustration, I asked her now many browsers am I supposed to try? Which is one is supposed to work? And, if she were in my spot - what would she be doing with those filters right now? Probably throwing them away, like I am about to. I also added that if I do that, then I'm going to film it, explain why I'm doing tossing the filters into the garbage, then post it all over various social media outlets, so other consumers can be informed that Brita isn't accepting recycling. At that point, I asked her for their recycling center's shipping address and that I would pay the freight myself and send it back to them. I totally understand why she would not be able to do that, but I thought it was worth asking because I really do NOT want to throw these in the garbage (I have about 15 pounds worth of filters). At that point, the CSR suggested that I try to get one of my local centers to accept Brita filters. I informed her that A.) This is Modesto, CA - no one is going to do that because there's no money in it. B.) I've already tried that (and I did last year to 4 different centers) and C.) I shouldn't have to do all that work for Brita. Brita should just send ME that shipping labels. What's so hard about that? Obviously, it must THAT hard for them. It seems Brita is not able to recycle their products for some reason, but instead of being honest about it, a concerned consumer like me is just being given the run-around. I'm done with Brita. Before this final attempt to get resolution with Brita, I found reusable, metal filters online in which I can replace the activated charcoal as needed, and these units will work inside the Brita pitchers. I can't wait to get them! By The Way: TerraCycle is NOT accepting Brita filters - no matter their equally deceptive website states! Thanks for reading. I hope Brita and / or The Clorox Company reads this, too.

Pros:
  • Works well
Cons:
  • Can not get the filters recyceled without throwing a fit

Preferred solution: Send me the shipping labels so I can recycle the 15 lbs of water filters! There is NO other solution.

User's recommendation: "Kishu" brand Charcoal Water Filter Kit. Can be bought on "Earthhero.com"

Take it to your local municipal recycling center (in my case, the local town dump) if they accept hazardous household materials for recycling.
